In 2015, one of my Hobbies Of was to read 60 books. In the spirit of being extremely competitive, I found that I had to be better than even myself, and when it came time to enter my reading goal onto Goodreads, I went with 72 books. “Take that, me!” I seemed to say, “You’re going to read 60 books? Then I’ll read 72! That’ll show you!” With both audio books and hard-copy books I’ve been able to complete 77 books total in 2015. It was a little daunting, and there were a few times I had to take a few weeks off from books altogether. It was a great way to get back into reading, though, and exciting to try new authors and genres.
To accomplish this Hobby of 2016, I’ll need to read 8 or 9 books a month, or about 2 books a week. I’d also like to devote a book per month to Classic and Non-Fiction/Educational titles. While I could probably read Teen Science Fiction books for the entire year, I want to make sure I’m broadening my horizons. There are a classic books mandatory in most high school English classes that I’ve never read, and I’m afraid I might be missing some of their themes and references in my other books.
Audible just released the Harry Potter books in audio format, so those are on my list as well. Even though I have technically already read them multiple times and seen every movie twice, I’ll still count them towards my total. Although if they don’t have to be new books each time, I could just read Goodnight Moon 100 times in one night and be done with this… Hmm…
I plan on reviewing the books I read each month and posting here. If you need more instant gratification, you can follow my progress on Goodreads here.
