Week One Project

1931944_10208637566836843_1845193301_nOne of my hobbies this year is to practice my lettering and to draw more. The plan is to complete a project every week (sometimes they will be furniture projects!), and I’ve chosen to post photos of my completed stuff on Mondays 🙂

My eldest son, David, is learning how to read and write in Kindergarten. He loves it! Don’t ask him about it directly, though because he will deny any enjoyment is to be had away from the home. He’s also all about Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood (just like everyone else in our family). There’s an episode in which everyone writes each other love notes, and when it came on this weekend, David disappeared for a few minutes and came back with the sweetest note for me that he had written himself! Needless to say, I was a mess. I’m surprised the ink isn’t washed away from the ugly-face sobbing I was doing over the paper.

I asked, “Did you copy the words somewhere? How did you write this?”

“I sounded it out! By myself!”

“When did you get so smart, Davy??”

“..at school?”

I do love him.

He then followed up with a super cute drawing of him hugging me. “Those are my hands there. It’s a little disappointing, because I don’t know how to draw hugging.” So. Sweet. And the opposite of disappointing.

Later that night, Davy asked me to write him a love note, too- with very specific instructions.

“Draw a picture of me on it, and Pokémon cards all around me.” Done.
